A Farewell from CUESA CEO, Marcy Coburn

January 9, 2020

Dear CUESA friends and supporters,

I’m writing to share the news that I will soon be transitioning out of my role as CEO of CUESA. After five and a half years at this organization that you and I both deeply care about, I am moving on to a new opportunity in San Francisco. I do not make this change lightly, and I want to express how grateful I am to have had your support as we grow thriving communities through the power and joy of local food.

It has been an incredible honor to lead CUESA, and to manifest the vision of our market community and founders while building an innovative organization as it has expanded and matured. I make this move with the knowledge that I am leaving the organization in the best possible position at the best possible time.

Your support has helped us achieve so much, including providing more direct sales opportunities for sellers when we began hosting the Jack London Square Farmers Market in Oakland and Mission Community Market in San Francisco’s Mission District, so that we now serve 150+ local farmers and food businesses and tens of thousands of residents. You also helped us significantly grow our education programs to reach thousands of Bay Area youth and adults through programs like Foodwise Kids and Foodwise Teens. Thank you!

Sonya Dreizler, CUESA’s Board Chair, will oversee the search committee for the next director, and during the search CUESA’s Director of Development Christine Farren (pictured with me in the photo below) will serve as Interim Executive Director. Christine has more than 17 years of experience at CUESA and strong ties to the food community, and is well positioned to steward the organization through a seamless transition.

CUESA will continue to keep you informed of all the exciting plans for 2020, as well as the search for a new director. I have so much genuine excitement for CUESA’s future, and absolute confidence in the staff and board’s ability to manage this transition with integrity and care.

We could not do this work without the support of all of YOU, our passionate community of market supporters, farmers, chefs, volunteers, and allies in this movement. Thank you for your continued partnership and support of CUESA!

Yours in warmth and respect,

Marcy Coburn
