Stop by CUESA’s Jack London Square Farmers Market in Oakland  for a cooking demo with Gloria Polo of Project Pride at East Bay Community Recovery Project featuring the seasonal bounty of the Jack London Square Farmers Market.

 

Gloria Polo brings decades of personal and professional cooking experience to us today. From her adolescence, when she taught herself to cook Chinese food from a cookbook, to college when she was a country club chef, to today, as the Food Service Manager for Project Pride at East Bay Community Recovery Project, her passion for food continues to grow.  Gloria has always had an adventurous palate, excitement for food, and a love of serving people and educating them on creative ways to make cooking fun and delicious. While working at Project Pride, Gloria has worked to implement food recovery from the CUESA Jack London Square Farmers Market, increasing the amount of organic produce served, while educating her community about its benefits. She is honored and excited to be chosen by CUESA for this event.  EBCRP has provided services to help with substance abuse, mental health, and other health-related services since 1989. With locations in Oakland and Hayward, EBCRP offers a full range of services from residential treatment for women and children to intensive counseling and vocational training. Project Pride is a facility for women in recovery and their young children, which provides housing, treatment programs, and support services. As the Food Service Manager, Gloria Polo creates the menus, obtains the ingredients, and teaches the residents how to cook and eat better. 

All demos take place at the CUESA Classroom (in the Palm Plaza at Embarcadero West and Webster Street, adjacent to the Info Booth) and are free and open to the public, with samples and recipes for all.
