June Taylor, June Taylor Company

Saturday, July 1, 2017 - 10:30am to 11:15am

Stop by the CUESA Classroom for a talk and tasting featuring the seasonal bounty of the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market and featuring an artisan producer from the market.

A passionate scholar of cooking history, Taylor taught herself to make preserves and fruit confections many years ago. She and her assistant, Magali Hernandez, make hundreds of jars of unusual treats by hand in the style of long-forgotten country cooks. June works directly with small family farms, seeking out heirloom and forgotten fruits, hoping to revive the tastes of our collective pasts. These fruits, once commonly grown and available, are now rare and almost extinct. Supporting the farmers who grow them helps to ensure that these varieties of fruit will not be lost.

Her versatile, natural, and light bodied fruit syrups are made by combining the juice of the organic fruit used in her conserves with a minimal amount of sugar, and are infused with an array of organically grown flowers and herbs. She decided to make limited editions syrups of very small runs using herbal combinations from plants she grows or forages for, and fruit juice-based syrups infused with flowers and herbs. She generally makes 20 - 40 bottles of each flavor.

All demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the white tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
