The Future of Food: Subversive Economies

Monday, November 19, 2018 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm

The true meaning of the word economy is “the management of home.” It refers to how we manage labor, culture, livelihoods, and land. Our relationship with economics offers us an opportunity to live our values. This final talk in CUESA’s 2018 series about The Future of Food will offer us an opportunity to examine our relationship to land, business, and money—three key aspects of our daily lives—and to dream toward alternative possibilities.

Join us for a conversation with several Bay Area organizations who are reclaiming the true meaning of economy in food, farming, and retail, and using creative economic models to subvert conventional capitalist systems, and work toward equity and sustainability. Take inspiration from these innovative organizations, as we explore how to put our money where our mouth is, and build the future we want to live in.

Location: Port Commision Hearing Room, Ferry Building, San Francisco

Reception featuring refreshments from CUESA’s Ferry Plaza Farmers Market (included with admission) to follow.
