Saturday, June 29, 2019 - 12:00pm to 12:45pm

Stop by the CUESA Classroom for a talk and tasting featuring the seasonal bounty of the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, followed by a book signing hosted by our friends at Book Passage.

La Cocina (which means “the kitchen” in Spanish) is a nonprofit organization that serves as a platform for low-income and immigrant culinary entrepreneurs by providing affordable, shared commercial kitchen space, an array of industry-specific technical assistance and services, and access to market opportunities and capital. The organization’s vision is that program participants become economically self-sufficient and contribute to a vibrant and diverse economy doing what they love to do. Products from La Cocina entrepreneurs can also be purchased at their kiosk in the Ferry Building seven days a week. At their Ferry Plaza Farmers Market stand, La Cocina highlights a different small business each month. Examples include handcrafted miso and shio koji, hand-rolled grits, organic flavored hummus, and more.

It’s the people who make La Cocina. WE ARE LA COCINA chronicles La Cocina’s growth into the organization it is today through more than 75 recipes and stories from more than 40 successful alumni of the kitchen incubator. These are different foods, from all over the globe, united in deliciousness. More than 150 photos by award-winning photographer Eric Wolfinger capture the beauty and variety of the foods, personalities, and restaurants.

All Market to Table activities take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the CUESA tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples.
