Paul Canales, Duende Oakland

Saturday, September 14, 2019 - 10:30am to 11:15am

Stop by the CUESA Classroom for a cooking demo featuring the seasonal bounty of the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market.

Paul Canales is the Owner and Executive Chef of Spanish-inspired neighborhood restaurant Duende in Oakland. Driven by his passion for improvising with local ingredients and Mediterranean-based cultural influences, Chef Paul opened Duende after leaving Oliveto Restaurant & Café, a Northern Italian-inspired restaurant in Oakland, where he worked as Executive Chef for over 15 years.

Duende is an innovative restaurant that uniquely blends food, drink, culture, and art. It’s located in the heart of Oakland’s Uptown district, a neighborhood that encapsulates those same core principles. Since opening Duende in early 2013, Paul has been serving his interpretations of the wide-ranging style of Spanish cooking (inspired by his father’s Basque heritage). Situated in the landmark Floral Depot building — the 1931 silver-and-cobalt-glazed tile art deco jewel across the street from the Fox Theater, a block and a half from the Paramount Theater — Duende captures and amplifies the artistic energy of Uptown Oakland.

All demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
