Penelope Lao, Liholiho Yacht Club

Saturday, September 7, 2019 - 10:30am to 11:15am

Stop by the CUESA Classroom for a cooking demo featuring the seasonal bounty of the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market.

Penelope Lao of Liholiho Yacht Club is one of 15 of the Bay Area’s top pastry chefs participating in Bake the World a Better Place at Bluestem Brasserie on Thursday, September 12, from 5-7 pm. Gather your sweet-toothed friends and colleagues for Bluestem’s second annual Bake Sale benefitting CUESA’s Foodwise Teens, a program in which students build skills to sustain healthy lives and a healthy planet. Learn more and buy tickets »

Penelope was born and raised in San Francisco and is of Chinese-Filipino hertitage. She started her professional career in the biotech field until she was compelled to move to New York City to complete a pastry program at the French Culinary Institute where she could do something more tangible and creatively satisfying. Food has always been an important part of all her childhood memories and family gatherings. Much of this nostalgia tends to inspire her desserts, an updated perspective on happy food memories.

All demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
