CalFresh Awareness Month

Thursday, May 27, 2021 - 3:00pm to 7:00pm

Celebrate CalFresh Awareness Month at the farmers market. Did you know you can use your CalFresh benefits to purchase local food at CUESA’s farmers markets, and double with them with Market Match? Visit our Info Booth to learn more.

CalFresh (also known as SNAP or EBT) is a vital lifeline connecting families and local farms. During the pandemic, SNAP spending increased 50% nationwide, while CalFresh usage has more than doubled at CUESA’s farmers markets. CalFresh makes farm-fresh, locally grown foods more affordable for thousands of Californians, while directly supporting the livelihoods of small family farms.

Celebrate CalFresh Awareness Month Throughout May

In honor of CalFresh Awareness Month, Mission Community Market shoppers can enjoy these perks throughout the month of May:

  • Goodie bags for kids: Families can visit the CUESA Info Booth for a free kids’ tote bag with a farmers market coloring book and crayons, Potter the Otter’s Market Adventure children’s book (bilingual), veggie stickers, and other fun activities to take home.
  • Rewards raffle: All month long, use your CalFresh card at the Mission Community Market and be entered to win prizes such as market totes or cookbooks! Just visit the CUESA Info Booth.

Mission Community Market takes place on Thursdays, 3:00 to 7:00 pm, at 22nd and Bartlett Streets in San Francisco’s Mission District. Stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables and delicious, handcrafted foods, and support your local farmers, food makers, and Mission community.

Use Your CalFresh Benefits at CUESA’s Farmers Markets—and Double Them with Market Match!

Using your CalFresh benefits at the farmers market is easy! During market hours, swipe your EBT card at the CUESA Info Booth to receive market coins to spend in the farmers market.

Double your food dollars at CUESA farmers markets. Customers using CalFresh benefits (EBT/food stamps) can double their dollars (up to $10 per market day) through the Market Match program, which offers free market coins redeemable for fruits and vegetables.

You can use your CalFresh benefits and double them with Market Match at CUESA’s four weekly farmers markets in San Francisco:

  • Ferry Plaza Farmers Market (Embarcadero and Market Streets): Saturday (8am-2pm), and Tuesday and Thursday (10am-2pm)
  • Mission Community Market (22nd and Bartlett Streets): Thursday (3-7pm)

Visit our Info Booth to learn more or check here for frequently asked questions about using CalFresh at the farmers market.
