Apple Crumble

Source:

Claire Keane, Claire’s Squares

INGREDIENTS

3¾ cups peeled, cored, and sliced Pink Lady apples
2 tbsp light brown sugar
1 level tsp ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
cup butter
¾ cup flour
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
½ cup brown sugar
Pinch of salt
4 tablespoons almonds

PREPARATION

1.   Preheat the oven to 350˚F. Toss the apple slices in the bowl with sugar, cinnamon, and ground cloves. Mix well and then place in a baking dish.

2.   To make the crumble, place the butter, flour, cinnamon, sugar, and salt in a food processor and pulse until it resembles crumbs. Add the almonds and pulse, until they are nicely chopped.

3.   Spoon the crumble mixture all over the apples, spreading it up to the edges of the dish. Using the flat of your hands, press it down firmly all over; the more tightly it is packed together, the crisper it will be. Bake for 40 minutes, until the topping is well browned and crisp. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving with well-chilled whipped cream or ice-cream.
