About
Founded in 2010 by home-brewing enthusiasts, Almanac has become famous for its fruited sour and barrel-aged beers. Their flavorful beers are brewed with special attention to the balance of sweet and bitter. All production is small-batch, with a focus on classical brewing techniques. In 2018, Almanac opened a full-scale brewery and taproom in Alameda, housed in a 1940s hangar at the former Naval Air Station, where all of their beers are currently brewed.
Sourcing
Almanac’s philosophy is “farm to barrel,” with a commitment to highlighting terroir in their beers through fruit as well as malt. From its beginnings, Almanac has sourced fruits from the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market for its beers, including blueberries from Triple Delight, stone fruit from Blossom Bluff Orchards, and strawberries from Swanton Berry Farm. Small-batch local malt is purchased from Admiral Maltings in Alameda.
Fun Fact
After the brewing process, spent grain is picked up and used as feed for pig and cattle by local farmers.
