Oyna Natural Foods

Mehdi and Aisan (husband and wife team)

Mehdi and Aisan immigrated to the United States in 2013 to pursue Aisan’s passion for dance. Oyna means to dance in Azeri language, spoken north west of Iran—Azerbaijan province, where both parents of the founders are from originally. They love food from different cultures and are on a mission to introduce more of Persian cuisine to the United States, starting with kukus.

Kuku is a savory, baked vegetable and egg dish with less egg than quiche or frittata. Oyna Natural Foods offers four varieties of kuku. One of them is Sabzi, the signature kuku of Iran, made with four different types of herbs. Spinach, potato, and veggie are the other three varieties. The kuku are paired with two sauces sold in jars: garlic-yogurt sauce and mint-parsley sauce.

Oyna Natural Foods is part of La Cocina’s food business incubator program. The kuku are handmade in La Cocina’s kitchen and baked with olive oil.

Oyna’s kuku are dairy- and gluten-free with no sugar added.

Fun Fact

1% of sales goes to programs that support dancers.
