Planting Justice is a grassroots organization and nonprofit based in Oakland that helps provide access to affordable, nutritious food by empowering urban residents to maximize organic food production. The organization’s mission is to empower people directly by mass incarceration and other social inequalities with the skills and resources to cultivate food sovereignty, economic justice, and community healing.

The soil’s fertility is maintained by cover crops, mulching, soil amendments, use of soil mixes, raw animal manure, aged manure, raw organic vegetable matter, compost, and commercial fertilizers.

Planting Justice has been certified organic by the California Department of Food and Agriculture since 2017.

Pest Management

Planting Justice manages pests through hand-removal, release of beneficials, and organic pesticides.
