About
Originally a dairyman, Dick mostly grew corn and alfalfa for his dairy cows in the early days, but in the mid-1990s, he switched over to growing all vegetables. Located on the southern tip of the Santa Clara Valley and nestled between the Salinas and San Joaquin Valleys, Swank Farms enjoys a unique microclimate that allows it to grow delicate lettuces, chards, and kale, as well as hearty sun-loving tomatoes, broccoli, and cauliflower. The farm’s soil is a mix of sandy clay and loam, allowing for a diverse harvest, including cherries, peas, tomatoes, and English melon.
Certification
Some of the farm is certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers since 2006.
